The crab species Ucides chordatus is widely exploited in the north and northeast regions of Brazil. Studies related to reproductive biology are extremely relevant, as they provide information that contributes to the maintenance of population stocks. Consequently, this study aimed to carry out the morphological description of the reproductive system of female crab U. chordatus . The collections took place in the municipality of Soure (Pará – Brazil). 26 female specimens were captured and taken to the laboratory, where the collected organs were subjected to macroscopic analysis and histological processing.
The observations allowed the morphological description of the complete reproductive system. The results show that in addition to the vagina being connected to the gonopore, it also has associated muscle tissue. It is suggested that this characteristic promotes control of the opening europe mobile number list and closing of the gonopore in different events. The ovaries internally have germ and accessory cells and are covered by connective tissue that extends to the oviduct, providing the connection between these two structures. Seminal receptacles are made up of epithelial tissue, connective tissue and projections of the epithelium in the final part. The oviduct is lined with epithelial tissue, directly connects the ovary, seminal receptacle and vagina and may be related to internal fertilization, as it is the common point between the organs of the female reproductive system of U.cordatus . Keywords: mangrove; oogenesis; histology; fertilization; oviduct. 1. INTRODUCTION The mangrove crab, Ucides chordatus (Linnaeus, 1763), also popularly known as the uçá crab, is a species found in abundance in the mangroves of the North and Northeast regions of Brazil.
Due to the great demand for their consumption, these crustaceans are subjected to intense exploitation (SANTANA et al. , 2010). The uçá crab has an oval shape, a body composed of a cephalothorax or carapace (ARAÚJO and CALADO, 2008). In the mangroves of the municipality of Soure, in the North region, the main characteristics of the crustaceans are the purplish color on the carapace, which varies from light blue to very dark tones, the presence of hair on the legs of males and the absence of hair on females. Regarding the morphology of the reproductive system, females have a pair of ovaries shaped like the letter “H”, which are connected to the genital ducts, consisting of: oviducts, seminal receptacles (spermathecae) and vaginas connected to gonopores (vulvas) (SANTANA and SILVA, 2010; DE SOUZA et al. , 2017).
